A friend asked me to knit a hat for her baby, and I loved the colors we decided on: the orangey-red Icord topknot and running stitch accented the dark olive perfectly. It looked great with his navy blue jacket.
This is an easy and adorable hat to knit with minimal finishing: the hat is knitted in the round, switching from green to red for the topknot, so there are only your casting-on and binding-off ends to work in. The edge of the hat is decorated with a simple running stitch in the same red as the topknot.
The finished measurements for this hat are 16" and 18".
The yarn is Peaches & Creme 100% unmercerized cotton in worsted weight; the hat is dark olive green, and the topknot and running-stitch trim are brick red. This yarn is soft, has a nice hand, and works up quickly at 4sts=1" in stockinette stitch on size 7 needles (needles not included).
The kit contains enough yarn to make the larger size hat plus complete instructions.
This is a project you can do in an evening and have ready for the baby shower tomorrow!
