I saw a beehive hat with bee buttons sewn on, but I worried that little fingers might pull off the buttons. Knitted bees were softer and less likely to cause trouble (and fun to knit).
This is an easy and adorable hat to knit with minimal finishing: the hat is knitted in the round, in alternating bands of purling and knitting, so there are only your casting-on and binding-off ends to work in.
The bees are knitted and sewn on.
The finished measurements for this kit are 16" and 18".
The yarn is Peaches & Creme 100% unmercerized cotton in worsted weight, and the colors are camel, yellow and black. This yarn is soft, has a nice hand, and works up quickly at 4sts=1" in stockinette stitch on size 7 needles (needles not included).
The kit contains enough yarn to make the larger size hat plus complete instructions.
This is a project you can do in an evening and have ready for the baby shower tomorrow!
